IDIOGLOSSIA, a CD of sounds found and created, marks Chris Burke's first effort under his own name. He originally came to notice in the mid-1980s with his home-recorded Bam-Bam tapes, a series comprised of a wide variety of musical styles issued under the names of fictitious artists, which were aired extensively over college radio to great response.
Elements from the Bam-Bam tapes, along with digital sampling, sound collage and electronic and acoustic instruments collide for a program of songs and pieces that make IDIOGLOSSIA one of the most musical and intriguing discs featuring sampling techniques.
The music ranges from choppy, complex rhythms to boisterous big-band hommages to electronic dance music. IDIOGLOSSIA's songs blend into each other in a style reminiscent of 60s psychedelia and 70s concept albums. Sounds and voices from television and radio often provide a fractured narration from the collective unconscious. And dig Burke's use of Ray Milland's monolog from X; THE MAN WITH THE X-RAY EYES in his tune WORLD OF THE DECEPTIKONS. A fascinating journey through a melange of musical styles that is sure to appeal.

Chris Burke
Composer Chris Burke has been working with electronic music and sound collage since the mid 1980s when he created his Bam Bam catalog of cassette releases which eventually became the Mode Avant release, Idioglossia. Since then Chris has had three other releases, including the Sire Records release All Wave Super with his band Glorified Magnified. He has collaborated with Grammy-winning producer Don Was and with Tom Morello of Electra recording artists Rage Against The Machine.
Currently, under the name glomag, Chris operates gameboys and computer to create electronic music in live performance. He has frequently collaborated with new media artists Lab[au] in Brussels and performed in Paris and Vienna. In New York he has collaborated with visual artists Benton Bainbridge, Giles Hendrix, Chiaki Watanabe and others.
Chris's sound and music compositions have been presented at Lincoln Center, The Whitney Museum of American Art, Rhizome's Digital Happy Hour at The Kitchen, The American Center in Paris and on television and radio in the US, Belgium and France.
Chris has a BFA in film production from NYU's School of the Arts and is a self-taught musician. His current CD release, "Device" is available on line at www.glomag.com.
