Well, dam, I have been in the Asian area for a while now and it is good to see some one challenging the noise that is coming out of this country. This is just another fantastic reason for me to visit Hong Kong. I can't wait until I have the flow and time to do so. Track one starts out like something that you might hear Junko of Hijokaidan scream on about only for the harshness to swallow up her voice and although she gives it from the very depth of her diaphragm, the noise is much like that of a three man noise circus. Punishing the listener with mix of shouts, feedback, guitar whales, sonic blasts, shrieks and other barks of lunacy, the track punches on until the tenth minute and fades out. Next starts with a bunch of thick noise and although the pitch is high as all hell, I mean, this is dense as a mother fucker. It still has Wanjun on vocals kicking everyone in the balls as the harsh noise penetrates our thought with its brash hyper pulsations and swirling mayhem in the background. Ever been a cross fight at ten paces with M60s? No, well this is what it sounds like my ever loving, tree hugging butt nut. Complete with a screaming cheerleading squad and someone actually trying to play the guitar under and that noise. Track three continues with a bit more vocals from what appears to be a male voice and some concrete feedback driven noise. Shouting increases and the noise doesn't seem to have the strength, just fiddling around as the seemingly upset man rages on with more energy that I have been able to muster all week. By the fourth minute, you will be wondering, how on earth is this continuing at the manic, blistering pace that it is? Man, and at sixteen minutes plus, this is a long track too. I personally think the noise could a bit more interesting if there was less rambling, but then again that is just me. I would like to hear the more intricate subtleties that I am sure this noise contains, but with a constant yelling, I can't focus and in a sad case lose a little interest. Still, I think it is a noble effort, but think this works a bit better live. Last up, is a mix of stuttering chaos and guitar noise, laden with a bit of crumpled low fidelity noise for variety. Sounding like two different guitars from each of the speakers and sound track for a porn movie gone bad to worse; this noise tumbles out on top of you like a ton of cardboard boxes only to completely shift in style and tone at the fifth minute as if it were a different track. There is a lot more use of feedback and less guitar, the electronic presence is highly increased then suddenly explodes into the insanity of Wanjun reminding you of the silence you once remembered combined with the guitar symphony cluster fuck! Torturing Nurse - Hai Shangnurse
Title: Hai Shangnurse

Year Released: 2005
Label: Harsh Noise
Now this band has been getting a lot of attention lately, primarily because they're from China, and we all know Noise doesn't often come out of China. Their Obscurica release didn't impress me all that much, but this release on the Harsh Noise label is where it's at. This is indeed harsh noise, full with vocals (but I doubt there's lyrics, probably just screaming), pedals, but the effects and pedals manipulation play a key role. Tracks like 'Inge' are just fucking mind-boggling, The screams in the beginning are horrifying...the sound of a girl screaming at the top of her lungs. Torturing Nurse? Quite possibly so. This is the type of noise that's so bad it's amazing. A treat for your ears. Other tracks like 'Ignore' have a bit 'softer' side to them (but this is still harsh noise, no less), with a considerable amount of more white noise, but still plenty to keep you going. Tracks like 'Syelrrah' are more on the experimental side, as in, different sounds, more experimentation. Overall, this album is gonna please to everyone: Fans of extremely harsh noise, and also to the fans of more 'experimental' noise without useless arrogant bullshit. Just listen to the beginning of 'Inge' and you'll hear what you're in for.
