杭盖，一个古老的蒙古语单词。它的意思是：一个有着蓝天、白云、草原、河流、山和树林的世界。杭盖也是几个来自中国不同地区的年轻音乐家的组合，一支投身蒙古音乐的乐队。乐手由蒙古族和汉族构成，乐器包括马头琴、图卜硕尔（蒙古的弹拨乐器）、吉他、贝司、鼓等等，也许还应该算上那种奇特的“乐器”——呼麦，同时用嗓子发出两个甚至三个音的演唱法。通过融合、发展不同地区的蒙古传统音乐，杭盖正在从最现代的一端迈向最古老的一端，而对经过了长时间摇滚乐和地下文化磨练的他们来说，这两个极点之间的距离，也许是最近的。“城市里长大的蒙古人，还想念他们的草原吗？”其实，这个问题属于所有的当代人，那些开始想念根的孩子。有时候，人们会提起这支乐队的前身，它曾经批判、咆哮，出版过新金属风格的唱片，但那已经是过去，而杭盖是今天，也是未来。

An Ear for Khoomei:
The Hanghai Live at Zhu Qizhan Art Museum

Following up with previous triumphant experimental concerts, a Beijing-based band will take the stage at Zhu Qizhan Art Museum, feasting your ears with a marvelous music odyssey into the mysterious realm of Throat-sing.
Throat-singing (a.k.a. overtone, or harmonic chant) is a type of singing in which the singer manipulates the harmonic resonance (or formants) created as air travels from the lungs, past the vocal chords, and out the lips. The genre is mainly represented by a category called khoomei in Tuva. And the Mongolian Khoomei is also a major force in this field.
This young band, composed of five young musicians from across the country, boasts a time-worn Mongolian name Hanggai which refers to a world with blue sky, white clouds, rivers, mountains and forests. Once a group deep-seated in rock’n’roll, they made a breakaway from the underground scene and took off once again as a Mongolian music act. Regional instruments mingled with the vintage guitar-bass-drum set, plus a cross-over style, plus the amazing khoomei, the band’s efforts have paid off soon and won them a large audience nationwide.  
The Hanggai are:
Yiliqi(Vocal, Khoomei), Aorilagu(back vocal, Khoomei), Hugeji’ertu(Morinhuur), Mamu’er(guitar) and Chen Kun(drum, percussion).
